This event is now over.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING US ANY MORE PUMPKINS!

This page will return properly later with a debrief and report, and then go into hibernation until next year (with improvements following understanding of and feedback from this year's event).
Thank you everyone who has supported it. We are overjoyed by the response.

Pumpkins

We must have received over 300 pumpkins in various forms, and are now currently at capacity for feeding the animals at The Square (and other locations). While many of the more rotten ones have been added to our compost pile, even this is getting full at the moment, so we will need time to properly process it all.
THANK YOU HOWEVER FOR ANY DONATIONS RECEIVED OR INTENDED.

If you still have pumpkin left over, please either follow this advice from VoG and cut it up and add it to your food waste caddy (as apparently around 4 pumpkin skins can help generate enough power for a 10min shower), OR place out in your own back garden or in your compost heap if you have one. In gardens, make sure it is elevated to keep away from hedgehogs.

 Pumpkin Facts

Did you know...

SAM_6023_edited_edited.png

…that before pumpkins were imported to the UK and Ireland, turnips were used instead for carving Jack-o-Lanterns.

…that pumpkins (and other members of the squash family) LOVE growing in old, rich compost? This means that if you do end up chucking some seeds into your compost heap, they might start to grow there (and for best results, left to grow from there).

Check out this handy guide to growing pumpkins yourself from the RHS

…the flowers & leaves are also edible.

…that Roasted Pumpkin Seeds can make a tasty ‘popcorn-like’ snack?
